TV Series Help

Either earlier this year or last I was watching a TV series but forgot the name.

 

What reminded me was I caught a bit of Elementary the other night and reminded me of the similar programme I used to watch, any ideas what it was I was watching.

 

I will know it when I see a clip, it was a series that was on TV, normal basic channels you get on Sky/Virgin.

 

Any suggestions as my memory is shocking when it comes to things like this.

Just more to this, the main character could travel time, it was aged several hundred but looked 40/50. Would investigate the murders but wasn't in police and assisted someone.

Which was honestly a shame. I really enjoyed it.

 

To clarify, Ioan Gryfford's character couldn't travel through time - he became immortal when someone tried to kill him in the 1800's on a slave ship. Whenever he 'dies' he ends up in the nearest body of water (in the series, it's the Thames - how an eternal cycle of dysentery didn't kill him off I'll never know). The old man he runs his shop with is his adopted son - a Jewish orphan of the concentration camps of WWII (I believe).

 

I personally loved it and was disappointed when it was cancelled.

Never got around to "Forever" but it sounds like the similarly short-lived "New Amsterdam" which starred Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as a guy gifted with immortality until he finds his "one true love". In the present he works as a cop.
