ei.cfg - Retail or OEM

Hi All,

 

I'm sure a lot of you have already seen this, but I have just tried to install Win 10 Pro as a clean install on a machine that was shipped with Win 10 Home. After going round in circles with slmgr.vbs I realise that I need to create an ei.cfg file in the sources folder of the installation usb. My question is does a Win 10 Pro MAK from VLSC count as retail or OEM for the purposes of the ei.cfg file?

I would have thought the ei.cfg would need to contain the following if the ISO is from VLSC?

just delete the ei.cfg and it should then ask what version of windows you want to install (it did with win7 cant remember trying it on 10)

normally it would - My normal USB doesn't have the ei.cgf file so I can pick the version depending on the school's licence, but this is the first time I've bought a PC with win 10 home and it didn't stop to ask the version because the key is built in to the firmware, so I'm trying to work around that.

 

Arthur - That's what I would've thought too, but the only options listed on the MS website are OEM and Retail. I'll give it a go and let you know.

Just to update this thread, the contents of ei.cfg in the sources folder need to be as follows for Windows 10 Professional on a volume licence:
