Mark182 Posted December 7, 2017 Posted December 7, 2017 We have a share that we want students to be able to save work in, edit/modify but not delete. I cannot seem to be able to crack it. I've turned off inheritance and added the students security group. I've run the 'effective access' and the results look like this:- I know that deny will trump anything else and I don't at the moment have create owner group in there. Is what I am after even possible?

dcwhitworth Posted December 7, 2017 Posted December 7, 2017 My colleague has cracked it! Beware of one thing, the permissions can be set up but they may interfere with some software. PowerPoint (the only one I definitely recall) for instance, creates and deletes some temporary files as part of the saving process. If the user has create but no delete rights the save will fail as the temp files can't be removed by the user. Or at least that's how it used to work some years ago when we had something similar set up as a homework hand in area. 1
TwistedHelixis Posted December 7, 2017 Posted December 7, 2017 Same as above. We had issues with office after setting this up and ended going back. 1
dcwhitworth Posted December 7, 2017 Posted December 7, 2017 Same as above. We had issues with office after setting this up and ended going back. It worked OK for us as a homework hand in area, provided the students dragged and dropped files into it rather than trying to directly save them there.
Guest MD5T Posted December 7, 2017 Posted December 7, 2017 My colleague has cracked it! How did you crack this? I can’t get it to work? Can you post a screenshot of permissions please ?
