Leased printer no longer reporting toner low to supplier

Hi all

One of our leased printer/copiers needed fixing today

While he was around we were chatting and he says the company are planning to stop the machine reporting toner low

hence they will stop automatically sending our toner automatically before we even notice it is low

apparently this is proving to be far too much trouble - people swap toner and take it out and put it back - which confuses the system

seem to me that this was part of our contract but I was wondering if it works OK with others

TIA

Our newer MFDs [Kyocera (can't recall the model)] will not let go of the toner cartridge unless it is empty. When it is empty our Reprographics lady swaps out the empty catridge for the new one and disposes of the old one.

Would it help if your devices this non-release feature?

We’ve had automatic ordering on ours for 3 years now, at one point toners weren’t being delivered on time but once they tweaked the order at % it works perfectly - we have some excess stock but that’ll get collected at some point. I don’t replace anything until it reaches 1%

The only time I’ve had to move toner between machines is when the ordering wasn’t right. I think it now orders at 20% rather than 10

I couldn’t give back to manual ordering now, it should be part of the contract

First port of call would be to find out why people are removing toner.

If they refuse to send in JIT then you will need a small stock of toner and to manually request when your last spare goes out.

Ahh - there is a problem here

I am leaving at the end of the term so I will have to hand it over to someone as well

also - I have checked several times with them that all the printers communicate OK

but I moved 2 of them a few months ago - and it turns out that I forgot to connect one to the network - so it must communicate by MAGIC (cue spooky music)

Works well here with our KM554's

We did have to put labels on to remind people not to remove carts before they were empty.

Just need to fix the problem of staff printing too much stuff.....

Update

Turns out that the engineer that told me this stuff had not been given the whole story.

Turns out that teh company is trialing a different system rather than using the @Remote from Ricoh. They have it working in over 50 places with no red flags. I have spoken to them quite firmly and they are coming out this morning to put the new stuff on so we can be sure it is working before I leg i at teh end of term
