LeMarchand Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 Hi, the PTA at one of my schools is keen on financing a revamp of the school hall's AV, particularly with a view to improving things for performances. I'd suspect this will mean a new projector and speakers and possibly replacing the existing amp and wireless microphones. Have currently got a quote from some people who want to put in all sorts of stuff that will never get used - like a semi-pro mixing desk. Has anyone in this sort of area used someone they'd recommend?
Andrew_C Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 (edited) Whitwam in Winchester are good, but that comes at a price. They will also talk to you, so you get what you want/need. PS - Say I sent you; I might get something off my last bill... Edited November 28, 2017 by Andrew_C 1
LeMarchand Posted November 28, 2017 Author Posted November 28, 2017 Whitwam in Winchester are good, but that comes at a price. They will also talk to you, so you get what you want/need. PS - Say I sent you; I might get something off my last bill... Thanks. Their website makes them look a few levels above what we need, but then I think the current quote is also a few levels above what we need!
SamanthaD Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 If you're using wireless microphones then I would suggest you need a decent mixing desk if you want to improve! Lots of companies that will gladly bid for your business, CPS have traditionally done a lot of school installs (especially their sister company Stagecraft), based in Christchurch so localish? Not sure where the mountains of madness are, Google doesn't help! If you want more a drama based install they might be worth a look. Other than that we use GV Multimedia for a lot of our installs, more general AV classroom based. Nationwide support, and you get what you pay for. 1

At the moment there's one mike that gets passed around (primary school) and it's rarely been felt that anything else was needed. No-one would be around to man any sort of mixing desk - they have some stage lighting that AFAIK hasn't been used in decades, so it just seems a waste to me. IMO they should be teaching the kids to PROJECT from the DIAPHRAM - it's not that big a hall . Not sure where the mountains of madness are, Google doesn't help! I should have said that by South, I meant very South. But perhaps it's for the best. I cannot guarantee that your sanity would remain intact if you were to face the eldritch horrors, the amorphous, nameless evils that lie... At The Mountains of Madness. Oh, go on then: But beware! Tekeli-li! Tekeli-li!
Andrew_C Posted November 29, 2017 Posted November 29, 2017 Thanks. At the moment there's one mike that gets passed around (primary school) Ahh... Maybe a bit "small beer" for Whitwam, unless you are very close and can swing some "local benefit" discount.
Chris_ Posted November 29, 2017 Posted November 29, 2017 I've used http://www.jpsltech.co.uk/ for AV install work before and have been happy with the quality of their work. They've worked with us to get the right equipment for our needs rather than just specifiying things way over the top and out of budget. We're a secondary school, but I've seen examples of their work they've done in other primaries. 1
