Printing Issues

Since we upgraded to Windows 10 Education on RM CC4 we have been experiencing printing issues where a user can sometimes send a document to print it will show up for a second or so in the print queue and then disappear as expected but nothing comes out the printer. We also use Papercut and when this happens the papercut credit amount does not change. This doesn't happen all the time and I have been unable to identify any common factors from when it does occur. I enabled the operational log for the PrintServer option in Event Manager and I have noticed the following errors:

A fatal error occurred while printing job , ID 5 on the print queue \\CSR|\(FE6F19D1-7A49-46F4-84B0-8E0EE264BF54). The print filter pipeline process was terminated. Error information: 0x8007003F.

Retrieving CSR cache information for printer \\\ failed, error code 0x2

The print spooler failed to delete the file C:\Windows\system32\spool\SERVERS\\00004.SPL, error code 0x2

The print spooler failed to delete the file C:\Windows\system32\spool\SERVERS\\00004.SHD, error code 0x2

Client side rendering to \\CSR|\(B632829B-3EF9-4BFF-AB81-3668300ECAD4), Job 13 failed, error code 0x80004005. The print spooler service will retry server side rendering. See the event user data for more context information.

 

Most of these errors show up even when a document prints correctly, only the first one shows up when the document does not print.

 

Has anyone come accross these types of errors before? This happens to multiple printer models so does not appear to be related to a specific printer driver.

If the papercut balance does not change then papercut is probably not aware of it.

Can you disable client-side rendering and try again and see if it helps?

What print server OS are you running? We run Server 2012 R2 and papercut no issues...

Disabling client side printing does appear to work so far.

 

We are using Server 2012R2.

Do you need to enter a code in the drivers to print?

 

We also had lots of issues when staff printed using windows apps, so Reader would not print PDF files but adobe reader would.

No codes are used when printing.

Metro apps like Edge, Photos, Maps etc. will all use Microsofts bespoke XPS driver to print, not the driver from the print server - We had the same issue where prints would dissapear but after an update they became jammed in the system and wouldn't delete until the print spooler was purged -

 

I believe the solution was to disable the policy 'Always Render Print Jobs on the Server'
