Germany bans children's smart watches

Ok, I can understand the reasoning behind this - Germany bans children's smartwatches - BBC News - but...

 

A German regulator has banned the sale of smartwatches aimed at children, describing them as spying devices.

 

And...

 

Telecoms regulator the Federal Network Agency urged parents who had such watches to destroy them.

 

It all comes over as very ranty and, well, a bit extreme.

Hah! Got a cheap chinese thing for my son, a "Witmoving" smart watch. It's only real function is SOS calls to and from the watch and GPS tracking, as he wants to be independent but we're a little unsure. He's 9, but likely to wander off if someone invites him to their house. With the watch he can easily call me or my wife and ask beforehand. Quite a handy thing, despite it's appalling build quality and chingrish instructions that are just hilarious. As for security? Yeah, "predators" can track children by another method too using hardware they already have; their eyes.
