GSuite - Prevent students changing their name

Is there a way to prevent students changing their name on their GSuite account. We have a couple of students changing their names so when the teachers look at their classroom the students names are different. Oddly they still show up find in the admin console.

 

They are going to My Account > Personal Info > Name and changing it here.

 

Want to try stop it before it becomes widespread.

There is a way because we have prevented it, but I don't know how.

 

Not much use I know but at least you now know it can be done.

I don't recall ever setting this on ours, but people can't change it here either.

 

Are you using Directory Sync? Maybe this is what is preventing it for myself and JJonas.

Yes using directory sync and salamander to organise groups and classroom etc.

Not 100% sure this is the correct answer but...

 

if you go into your admin console then 'apps' -> 'gsuite' -> directory you should then see profile editing and you can deselect 'name' from that list.

That looks hopeful thanks. Just waiting to see if it takes effect now but they were all ticked allowing changes when I went on there.

1. From the Admin console, go to Apps > G Suite > Directory.
   
2. On the Directory page, click Profile editing. You can choose to allow user editing for each of the following:
   

[h=3]Name[/h]Check the Name checkbox to allow users to edit their profile name and nickname. Uncheck the box to disable user editing.

Note: If you uncheck Name, a warning appears to show that user-modified names and nicknames will be deleted, and names will be reverted to administrator-set names. Disabling name editability deletes the user-set name and reverts to the admin-set name.
