Disable or Restrict Edge Browser in Windows 10 1709

Hi Again

We have Windows 10 Pro at most sites and as you know MS are trying to strip out all useful features to push Enterprise or Education SKUs, which for small businesses and schools isnt really doable for most. This would apply to many settings, but can Edge be disabled or restricted in any way. We have removed all shortcuts and pinned icons, we have also used an XML associates file for Chrome to take over the force defaults the edge applies to itself for htm and html etc... but is there way to stop it running or restrict it, or at least maybe tame it in one way or another :)

Cheers.

Security policy and block the executable? You cannot use Applocker but you should be able to use a Security Policy with either executable hash or path rule.

This should work, I was using a MS10ENT Evaluation VM to test but I believe PRO still has the required tools to block this application (see screenshot) :)

That is Enterprise it may function differently, i just tried a Path rule to:

%systemroot%\WindowsApps\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe

Didnt seem to work ?

Sure, if that fails to work are you able to set permissions on the directory? i.e. "Everyone" to "Deny" ? I tried this and it works as the executable is inside that folder and the folder cannot be accessed once deny permission is set.

You should be able to use remove-appxpackage and remove-appxprovisionedpackage to completely remove edge from the machines altogether
