PC or Mac

Undecided what to buy, PC or Mac, not bothered about cost. What would you buy and why?

It isn't our preference, it is yours.

 

What do you want to use it for? Are there any specific applications, games or whatever that you want to be able to use? How deep is your pocket? How much are you prepared to spend?

Basically I use my pc for browsing, designing posters, flyers, programmes and updating websites. Just that my pc is so slow and has been since I bought it. Really want something that works straight away and doesn't crash!

So what you need is to specify a budget and then get us to find the best spec for the money. The kind of thing you are doing doesn't really hammer a machine like gaming. Personally, I think you will get much better value for money - more RAM, better processor - by getting a PC rather than a Mac

Slam in an ssd. Job done. For under 100 quid you can get yourself a decent Samsung ssd with cloning software included

This. We've turned 10 year old PCs which take 25 minutes to log on into something which feels reasonably new and logs on in 30 seconds purely by changing the hard drive for SSD.

I agree with getting an SSD but I would do a fresh install of the OS and your software and move your data across - a bit slower and more long winded than imaging/cloning it but it will mean it's at its optimum.

 

If you still want to buy a new one, then get a MacBook as they're shiny and nice to use because they are different to Windows and as they say, " a change is as good as a rest". I have a MacBook at home (8yrs old and still going strong with RAM and SSD upgrades) that I use for basic things like web browsing and when you've been using Windows all day it doesnt feel like a 'bus-mans holiday' when you use it!

With a PC you get a little bit more flexibility in terms of what you want so I would recommend getting a Windows based machine, I agree with everyone else an SSD will almost speed up any machine they're well worth the investment.

Affinity Designer (and Affinity Photo for image editing).

 

Swift Publisher is also worth a look.

 

You could also use Pages.

Person asks for advice, everyone gives him advice saying which one to buy. Person buys the opposite.

Why do people buy things they have never used before, with no idea what they are going to use when they have bought it?

 

Fine ignore whatever everyone suggests, but if you decide to buy the alternative use the Internet to check what software is available for your purchase. Your asking the same people you ignored first time to give you more suggestions...

Because it's cheaper than going on a training course. That's why I purchased a MacBook 8yrs ago, I had no idea what they could do and it was cheaper to pay £800 for an Aluminium MacBook than to go on a training course for several thousand and I would at least have a laptop to use out of it.

 

Just because the majority of people said one thing does not mean the OP had to do as you all suggested! They listened to what you had to say and made an informed decision to make up their own mind.

 

I stand by my suggestion of Microsoft Office (for Mac) to create flyers - Publisher is not part of Office for Mac, weirdly Word has a couple of 'modes' one of which basically changes it in to a DTP.
