DCUK6 Posted October 9, 2017 Posted October 9, 2017 Hi All, We have one server that uses Windows Servers disk management for Raid 1. One of the two drives has been taken offline with a error. Ive played with test servers before but never had to do for real. Just researching the recommended way ive seen both used. Whats your thoughts? Plan is: Backup Remove mirror, Shutdown machine, Remove failed drive and replace, switch on again, right click good raid drive and add mirror. add in new drive and wait for it to rebuild.
SHimmer45 Posted October 9, 2017 Posted October 9, 2017 (edited) id agree with the above. did it the other week for a backup box. Edited October 9, 2017 by SHimmer45
DCUK6 Posted October 9, 2017 Author Posted October 9, 2017 It went a bit funny but seemed to end in the right result. Tried removing mirror and it said it needed to be offline, offline it and tried again and something happened, 'Can't remember as i was stressing with everything gone on today' After it came online the failed drive was dynamic but had it's own drive letter so looked ok. Removed the drive and learnt that if it's not a proper server with raid and hdd lights, label them drives. Added new drive in and added it to the mirror. It's now syncing but virtuals have started.
