Netsupport DNA/School

Morning, just wondering on how you guys do deploy the Netsupport School part.

We've got a trial so playing around with it. Got DNA deployed via GPO (Once figure out the ADM template & DNA.ini file bit) and that seems to be great.

 

Now on to Tutor/Student how do you guys deploy & setup the School bit for Tutor & Student?

Our Impero is setup so that when the Teacher PC loads up, it loads the room of PCs the teacher is in and not the whole school.

To replicate this in Netupport, am I right in thinkin... I need to deploy just the Tutor console to the Teacher PC in the room, Student to the rest of them. Which then would mean I can't do a GPO software install as both Teacher & Student PCs are in the same Room OU (I'm assuming I use DNA for the software install manually choosing the right machines?) and then control access via the ADMX Templates?

 

Or... is there another way I'm totally missing. Do you get the teachers to select the rooms when they launch Tutor?

 

Spoken to support, who've sent me some tech docs but they're 5+ years old... So just before I go down that route just wanted to see if I'm heading the right way! Cheers

Netsupport can auto load the class your are in.

Tutor and student console can be deployed straight from server with configs.

 

I personally deploy a tutor console and then deploy that rooms config from that machine so i know i am sending out the right configs -but thats just me.

 

Why don’t you ring support, i am sure they will be happy to help with setting up.

I do everything via GPO.

 

NetSupport DNA agent just get's pushed out via GPO with the server in the config file as per the instruction.

 

NetSupport School, I have 2 folders - one for the student and one for the tutor. Config files in each and then 2 GPO's. The Tutor PC's are placed into an AD group, the student install GPO gets configured so that the the Tutor PC group doesn't have read permission to the GPO, the Tutor install GPO has the filtering so that only the Tutor PC's have read permission on the GPO.

 

Link for GPO's to the room and then configure the rest of the details by ADM.

Thanks, I think that's the way I'm doing it now too.... I'm currently doing the creating a GPO for each room and the Encrypting Security keys/Connectivity Service for each room bit of the GPO. Certainly a trickier config than Impero.

Hi @gumbygaz, when creating the GPOs for NetSupport School we normally create a high level GPO to cover all machines on the network that contains the Name and Connectivity Server (NCS) settings and any other general Tutor Console or Student settings you wish to apply to all machines. Then, at each room OU level the GPO you create only applies the required Room name.

 

Using this method it is very easy to modify the high level GPO if you wish to change the Tutor and/or Student settings, or change the NCS connection details if you have had to move the NCS to a different server for any reason.

 

Applying the NetSupport School high level GPO to machines that do not have NetSupport School installed will have no adverse effect on any other software or settings on the machine.
