Windows 10 Applocker Issue

Hi,

 

This has happened on quite a few machines but haven't found a solution, its just happened to my work PC now and all I've found is to reinstall so hope someone might have seen this before.

 

The Applocker service is not running but sometimes the apps on my systems just stop working. The start menu fails and the settings, if I click on the desktop to edit the display it shows 'the file doesn't have an association' error.

 

I've tried using a different account, unjoining the domain, creating a blank applocker policy and refreshing but as soon as I enable the service I cannot use anything on my PC.. everything is blocked. I can't even gpupdate to refresh the policy.

 

When I look at the policy it shows nothing (even tried adding the default ones.. and adding my local admin in the wildcard section) but nothing worked.

 

I changed the Applocker service to auto and rebooted hoping the policy would refresh and sort itself out but it locked me out and wouldn't log on.. had to edit the registry in the startup to disable the service again.

 

Its happened to about 20 machines and its not an issue for the end users as they use IE but for me I cant even look at the updates needed.

 

Anyone seen this? I'm back on my PC but its a bit limited.
