Theldron Posted September 22, 2017 Posted September 22, 2017 Hi all, I am currently doing physical check of our assets. I am entering the date of the physical check in GLPI which I use as a asset register at the moment. Is this an acceptable way to do it? How does everyone else do this? Cheers
jthompson Posted September 22, 2017 Posted September 22, 2017 That's what I do. Incidentally, I also use that field to log when projector filters were last cleaned. That field to us is basically a way for us to say "I can vouch for seeing this item at the expected location at this point in time". Useful when things are reported missing, or are subsequently found.
Rob_D Posted September 22, 2017 Posted September 22, 2017 Sounds good to me. We use Parago asset register and barcoded asset labels, so we just need to run around and scan things to update the "last audit date", but it's the same sort of process. Check the asset is still where we think it is, check it's still working, tick it off. It becomes more interesting when you finish and still have a bunch of missing assets :S If you're looking to manage your kit, then uniquely numbered asset labels are (IMO) the way to go, regardless of how you manage them.
jthompson Posted September 22, 2017 Posted September 22, 2017 After I discovered that our label printer could print barcodes, I've started sticking barcodes onto computers. They all have a 5-digit asset number assigned to them, and I've got a barcode reader app on Android that allows you to create actions on scan. I created one that opened the relevant search result URL for GLPI for that number. The app can also just log the scanned numbers to a list, so that you can bip around a room and then have a list of codes to share out of the app. 2
