localzuk Posted September 21, 2017 Posted September 21, 2017 I need to buy 5 Android phones for use by our Estates team and my IT technician. There are a short list of requirements: 1. Not expensive 2. A camera that focuses quickly (as they'll be used to do Asset label scanning) 3. Ability to get a tough case for them 4. Battery that'll last a proper working day Any thoughts?
hardtailstar Posted September 21, 2017 Posted September 21, 2017 How about a tough case already on them? CAT S30 Rugged Smartphone 4.5" 8GB 4G Unlocked & SIM Free - Laptops Direct
localzuk Posted September 21, 2017 Author Posted September 21, 2017 How good is the focus on the camera? I don't want staff spending ages waiting for the camera to focus on a QR code.

Arthur Posted September 22, 2017 Posted September 22, 2017 1. Not expensive 2. A camera that focuses quickly (as they'll be used to do asset label scanning) 3. Ability to get a tough case for them 4. Battery that'll last a proper working day Moto Z Play? It costs around £232.50 + VAT (although you can get it cheaper if you shop around), The camera has two autofocus systems (laser and phase-detection) so it should be quick. I don't think there is a CAT-style full body case available, but there's this one: amzn.to/2ygW6IA, which you could combine with a tempered glass screen protector. The battery lasts almost 2 days on a full charge and supports fast charging (~9 hours of battery with a 15 minute charge). Other benefits... Near stock version of Android. It will be updatable to Android 8.0 Oreo later this year. Camera app can be launched with a twist of the wrist. microSD slot. Fingerprint reader. USB-C.
FN-GM Posted September 22, 2017 Posted September 22, 2017 The Wileyfox phones are good value. https://www.wileyfox.com/smartphones
