mac_shinobi Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 Want to get insurance for my laptop but want to know who would be the best company to get it from so that if something does happen I will get a swift replacement and also a decent price on it.
Norphy Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 When I worked for the evil computer company we used to push this place: http://www.compucover.co.uk/ They used to pay us a nice commission but I have no idea what they're actually like to buy from
mac_shinobi Posted February 3, 2006 Author Posted February 3, 2006 I really want to get confirmation.
Ric_ Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 Why are you so concerned about insurance? What you planning on doing to the thing?!?
mac_shinobi Posted February 3, 2006 Author Posted February 3, 2006 Jumping up and down on it lol J/K Nah gonna be taking it to school with me and I wanna make sure that if it gets damaged or w/e that I can get it repaired / replaced or w/e
Ric_ Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 I've had an iBook for 2 weeks now - the only problem I have is that the white casing is too nice and, as soon as you start touching it, it looks a bit mucky The hard disks have that pre-emptive dropping thing so they should be OK and the build is generally very good - the screens even seem quite solid! I would maybe recommend talking to an Apple rep and asking how much you should expect to pay for a new screen, etc. - may prove to be little price difference between repairing and insuring.
mac_shinobi Posted February 3, 2006 Author Posted February 3, 2006 so what are you suggesting I do then lol ?
Ric_ Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 weigh up the options... do you insure your watch? do you insure your suit? these things cost in excess of £100 but you probably decided that insurance wasn't worth it because the chance of you damaging them was low and the repair costs wouldn't be too great. with laptops, you probably won't damage it and you'll want to upgrade it in a couple of years anyway.
mac_shinobi Posted February 4, 2006 Author Posted February 4, 2006 yeah but who is going to nick a suit versus an expensive laptop ? I mean £100 versus over £1000 , there is a big difference.
kingswood Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 Shane *needs* insurance for his electronic goods Ric. Trust me. I actually insured my little Dell Axim PDA when I got it but have never needed it and let the insurance lapse. When I got my iBook from PC World the guy who sold us it also *sold* me on the £9 a month repair/insurance cover which seemed a good idea at the time...except the iBook is one sturdy customer and even with our kids dropping it and mangling it hasn't given up or got a yucky shade of white. So I agree with Ric- have a good think about insurance. You may just spend more on insuring the thing than any claim you would make for a repair. And with Apple giving a one year warranty for hardware issues you are covered anyway. We won't steal it from ya. Even though the school will be making a contribution we promise never to claim on that part of the laptop....hehehehehe....
mac_shinobi Posted February 4, 2006 Author Posted February 4, 2006 Parents are gonna call up the house insurance and see if it is covered if not then will just add it under that and even if i dont then going with the above insurance only costs £60 pounds or so and that versus buying another power book is a lot cheaper. Especially considering how much it cost Not to say that you will steal it lol
