We are using 11.4 SMART software on Windows 10 and each time the SMART INK appears on login.

Is there a way of disabling this in the registry? Can't seem to find anything anywhere.

Any help would be appreciated.

iirc smartink is sat in software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\run\ in the registry (if using x86)

there is an XML file which controls what the smart ink overlay is allowed to "overlay" which might be useful its in the smart education folder.

Struggling to find the overlay. We run 64bit win10.

Can't uninstall SmartInk as they use some of the functions such as highlighting on powerpoint presentations.

on a x86 client the file which controls the overlay config called nulloverlayconfig.xml is in c:\Program Files\SMART Technologies\Education Software\

id assume the file is the same for x64 clients? perhaps in the program files x86 part if its being fussy about where it installed on a x64 client

Not wishing to hijack this useful thread but I feel very much linked to the OP. We have various versions of Smart software, which came with the various boards in use. Management are keen to have all boards running on the same version. Is there any advantage in doing this and I guess there would be a cost if we upgraded?

They've changed their pricing model this year and as long as at least 75% of the interactive boards you have on site are Smart Boards, you can get a site license for the latest version at a pretty reasonable cost (the figure I've got in my head is £375/year, but I haven't got the info to hand and whether there are restrictions on it). I'll look later, but I'm sure the friendly guys @VeryPC would give you excellent advice and pricing 🙂

from what i remember its not a site license as such (in that you cant just install it on infinite pcs and your licensed) you get so many activations and that depends on how many pupils the school has and how many boards you have (i cant remember the specifics i just get sent the keys) and its a per year agreement so like ees you cough up £x every year you want to use the software

we purchased a few licenses to update some VERY old board software which allows us to use the smart software release up to 2018, after that we would need to pay to get any more updated software.

But for the purpose we required this is going to be fine as we got the update we needed

after the licenses stops allowing you to use updates after 2018 it doesnt prevent using the version you already have

Hi - same as @speckytecky don't want to derail the thread, but just just popping head up to say if anyone has any SMART licensing questions, drop an email to [email protected] and one of our SMART specialists will be able to help you out.

That's all - back to original discussion folks.

Cheers,

On a similar note (and hoping this is allowed as it's not exactly promotional, but could potentially benefit anyone looking to buy):

SMART are running a 2 for 1 offer until the end of September for SMART Learning Suite exclusive to ANME members -

The ANME isn't a reseller, and has no financial gain from this - you just get a code you can use with your preferred reseller - so can still deal with @VeryPC etc.

On a similar note, not wishing to hijack (but hell, everyone else is!), Our SMART lightrise projectors are failing at an alarming rate, all just on the other side of their warranty. I'd be extremely reluctant to buy any more SMART stuff.

im not a fan of the interactive panels either had to have far too many replaced under warranty as they stop responding correctly to touch and are very fussy about both hdmi and usb cables

Thanks for that. Do you have a clue which part to remove? Do you have a copy of said XML file?

Much appreciated.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll know to avoid them too when someone suggests them as an alternative to their projectors!

i pulled my info on how the file works from:

KnowledgeBase - How to add the SMART Ink overlay and Toolbar to an application

KnowledgeBase - How to remove the SMART Ink overlay and hide the SMART Ink Toolbar for a single application

if you need a couple of the file i should be able to dig one out
