I have a Pixel C tablet that has worked brilliantly for the last 6 months.

The monthly OS update for August was to go to Android 8.0 Oreo. I finally accepted this a couple of days ago. It's a personal device.

All seemed well and I used it immediately after the update. Next time I tried to use it the screen brightness was zero :(

I can just see a glimmer on the screen when I wake it - notifications from the apps which I can clear with an upward swipe - but I can't see the numbers clearly enough to enter my PIN.

How on earth can I reset this thing or is it now an expensive brick?

You've most likely tried this, but just in case, have you tried plugging the tablet into a charger? Sometimes I have seen devices adjust their brightness up when being charged as they are feeding from the mains.

GOOGLE Pixel C - How to Hard Reset my phone - HardReset.info

You're probably looking at the recovery option. The screen brightness is usually set to max there.

I haven't had max brightness. No idea what state it's in now :(

I could cry right now. :censored: :censored: :censored:

If I can't this back, this is my last association with Android after many happy years with Note 10.1 and then this. At least with an iPad I can plug it into a computer with iTunes

Good news! We have a resolution

At the end of my tether, I rang Google Support... after all it is under warranty still.

A very nice man in a UK support centre rolled his sleeves up and, after quute a bit of messing about, we are, finally, in!

The Pixel C comes supplied with a charger with a hard wired plug. Luckily, I had bought a separate USB C cable ages ago - the only one in the house - and was able to connect it to my desktop!

It quite liked that and decided to show me the screen, but as soon as it went to sleep it refused to wake again even when connected to the computer. (Memo to self - take the opportunity to do a factory reset when you get one!)

Eventually, we went into Find My Device on my desktop and I was able to Erase the device from there (luckily everything was on the cloud) and I am now setting it up from scratch again.

He has emailed me directly and told me to contact him directly if it decides to misbehave again. Fingers firmly crossed that it doesn't.

And the bad news is that I have woken to exactly the same problem this morning. I followed all the steps to Erase from Find My Device and it's still not playing.

I have emailed my contact at at Google and am hoping it can be replaced under warranty
