Does look pretty simple to make - still looks like you could recover data! Shouldn't it really be proper shredding so it turns your spinning rust into metal confetti if you were going to do it correctly?

It does literally destroy the disk.

I wouldn't want to put money on it. I admit this would stop 99.9% of folks from being able to recover data from your old hdd and if you could pick one up for £100 it might be an idea (assuming they haven't patented it).

Engineering mate of mine, like I say can make this during his lunch break without even breaking a sweat... He can make it for less than £50. Will look different in case of patent. Most likely patented in the US, can't find them over here. So not sure whether it would apply here.

 

Would definitely be worth having.

 

May order a few from him at the price he has offered me.
