Exchange 2016 on Server 2016 install problems

Hi All,

 

Was wondering if anyone can help/point me in the right direction... I'm currently having issues with the installation of Exchange 2016 on Server 2016 (with the Desktop experience). We currently have an Exchange 2010 infrastructure in place. (Update)

 

I have done the following commands:

 

setup.exe /PrepareSchema /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms

 

setup.exe /PrepareAD /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms

 

setup.exe /PrepareDomain /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms

 

Then

 

setup.exe /Mode:Install /Roles:Mailbox /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms

 

However it fails with the following error:

I've tried restarting and restalling (both via the cmd and the GUI), but it keeps on failing.

 

I've also done a search in AD for any accounts (that look like Exchange accounts) and have typed in e-mail addresses where it was blank:

 

FederatedEmail....

SystemMailbox... (4 of them)

 

But these were shots in the dark as the error doesn't say what accounts...

 

Done searches on TechNet as well as via Bing & Google, no avail...

 

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

Yes, downloaded the latest version of Exchange yesterday (just in case) and fully updated Server 2016 yesterday (the only update this morning was a defender definition which was installed) as well.

Though it's a much earlier version, many of the same rules will apply. This could be the Discovery Mailbox giving you issues.

Thanks, I've already found the solution and have pasted my answer on TechNet here

 

Basically it was the FederatedEmail account that was corrupted (I assume), I had to delete and recreate it before the installation would go any further. Don't know why they have to hide the causes and give vague descriptions.
