mstanley Posted August 20, 2017 Posted August 20, 2017 So the school recently bought into the SIMS Teacher App and purchased Android based tablets to run the app on, mainly sue to price and the fact the school uses a lot of the GSuite apps. We have had our LEA in over the Summer holidays to help setup the app, they've done everything their side. When we try and sign in using a Google account we get the following error message: "403. Thats an error. Error: disallowed_useragent. This user-agent is not permitted to make an OAuth authorization request to Google as it is classified as an embedded user-agent (also known as web-view). Per our policy, only browsers are permitted to make authorization requests to Google. We offer several libraries and samples for native apps to perform authorization requests in the browser." I've done some research and I think its to do with the way Chrome handles WebView requests in Android 7. Has anyone experienced similar issues? Cheers, Mark
pubgrub277 Posted August 21, 2017 Posted August 21, 2017 Google discontinued the webview method of authentication earlier in the year and now require the oAuth to connect. From what i understand the Android app is no longer being developed and will be discontinued by Capita (due to lack of take up) so they won't be implementing the changes required to allow device to logon. I've yet to see an official announcement. Maybe @PhilNeal could confirm.
badidas Posted August 21, 2017 Posted August 21, 2017 Pubgrub is quite right. Capita will no longer be developing the Android version (disappointingly). We did try to argue the "uptake" reason, as we felt that the figures could be skewed (especially after we were selling teacher app off the back of the statement "you don't have to buy expensive Ipads, you can get some nice android devices for less than £100, and they'll be fine")
TwistedHelixis Posted March 5, 2018 Posted March 5, 2018 We had no idea that they had even released the Android version, and now I find they have stopped it due to poor update. Nearly all our schools use Android and would have used this at some point. Great advertising Capita. 1
bobsmith Posted March 20, 2018 Posted March 20, 2018 Just found this thread - we've just got our site wide wireless sorted and the Teacher App was going to be my magic bullet for sorting out registers for the PE department. So things I've learnt: 1. No android support at all 2. iOS 11 on an ipad mini 2 - not supported A better question might be what it does work on??

synaesthesia Posted March 20, 2018 Posted March 20, 2018 Look up Edulink by overnetdata. Works wonderfully regardless of platform and a hell of a lot cheaper than Capita's offering.
TwistedHelixis Posted March 20, 2018 Posted March 20, 2018 Look up Edulink by overnetdata. Works wonderfully regardless of platform and a hell of a lot cheaper than Capita's offering. On the site it says - [h=2]MIS integration with SIMS[/h] So does it not replace Sims?
synaesthesia Posted March 20, 2018 Posted March 20, 2018 No of course not, that was never said. It integrates with SIMS and does exactly what you'd hope from the Teacher App.
bobsmith Posted March 20, 2018 Posted March 20, 2018 Look up Edulink by overnetdata. Works wonderfully regardless of platform and a hell of a lot cheaper than Capita's offering. I'd agree but it can't be cheaper than free (if you have hosted SLG). Depending on what happens with SIMS 8 I think I'm gonna be dumping anything but the core of SIMS, the third party products just work better.
TwistedHelixis Posted March 20, 2018 Posted March 20, 2018 I was shocked the other day when our LA said it might be an idea for our school to look at alternatives to Sims over the next year. WOW
synaesthesia Posted March 20, 2018 Posted March 20, 2018 SLG costs a small fortune doesn't it? It's note a core service
bobsmith Posted March 20, 2018 Posted March 20, 2018 more than a small fortune, we've only got it cos someone else renewed it for 3 years without consulting.... At least the SIMS Parent App is fairly useful.
