Uraken Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 hi all i have an old cisco 2600 router that i'm currently playing with, i'm not sure the exact ios buts its 12 something i think, the problem is when i use the show interfaces command it returns no results at all, almost as if the serial and ethernet slots are not there? has anyone come across anything similar? am i using the right command on this early version of the ios? is there anywhere that will tell me what ios i need? thanks in advance as always.
torledo Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 No, i haven't come across that problem before if the IOS version is IOS 12.x it's not terribly old..... can you get a show run, if so what are the results ?

Hi, Try show ip int brief at the priviliage exec mode (i.e. when you are at # prompt) This should show you the interface status and weather its down or up. Show controllers might also be worth a try Ash.

Don't bin in yet, Keep persisting and check the cisco troublshooting docs. You could go into rommon and mess about with the config-registers, but you're better off focusing you're troubleshooting on IOS reinstall. Edited March 17, 2008 by torledo
Uraken Posted March 17, 2008 Author Posted March 17, 2008 The serial interface is modular and i have checked that and all is ok but still won't show up? the ethernet is onboard. I suspect a dody IOS if i'm honest but as i understand you can't just download them if you don't have some sort of contract and as i came across the router second hand thats not an option.
