Hi all,

we have alot of the above speaker systems installed in school, some of them are getting on and the speaker in the satellites are starting to fail.

i have had one apart to see if its possible to replace the speaker driver (which it is) but i am having trouble sourcing a suitable part.

from what i can gather its a 2" full range speaker with a measure resistance of 6.7Ohms and the power handling of the system as a whole 40W (80W max)

Farnell and CPC dont seem to sell speakers of that size with that kind of power handling but then they dont specify if its RMS Watts.

as usual just seeing if we can save money as new active speakers are 50-60 a set.

cheers

You wont be able to replace single drivers in those as they will be (as you can see from the impedance) quite bespoke but you could do each pair with 2" 8ohm drivers. However is your time doing that really worth the hassle?

well if i can source a suitable part it doesn't take long to replace them.

our budget is under increasing pressure and things like speaker systems we could do without having to replace as the money can be used else where.

As much as I applaud that sentiment (as someone who spends more time than should be necessary fixing monitors, speakers, USB sticks and the like) I'd say it's probably not time best well spent. Anything else out there that would do the same job but perhaps cheaper? Second hand maybe? Many places are dumping their speaker systems, projectors etc whilst they replace with interactive screens, perhaps it'll be worth an email round to your counterparts in the local area?
