Mrluckhurst Posted July 11, 2017 Posted July 11, 2017 Hi, not sure this is in the right thread but it kind of fits! We are a fairly large junior school with a number of printers spread across the site. As always the printer you want to use in a hurry has a huge job on it. I am looking for a low cost or ideally free push/pull printing solution that enables staff to just print from their desktop/iPad and then pick it up from any printer. What sort of solutions have you implemented? Thanks Chris
robsonma Posted July 11, 2017 Posted July 11, 2017 What you need is a managed print service, With something like papercut on, User Prints to a Virtual Print Que, ie, Follow-Me walk's to any of the Printers can log in using AD Cred, a pin or swipe card. and select their print job and out it comes.
Mrluckhurst Posted July 11, 2017 Author Posted July 11, 2017 A bit of a mix - two rioch multi-function devices and a few laser printers dotted around. I can devices I can dedicate to the lasers
robsonma Posted July 11, 2017 Posted July 11, 2017 We have MFP, We are a primary school and gone from 18 Desktops to 5 Toshiba e-studio 2505AC and 1 Toshiba e-studio 5506AC Everything is covered in the Contract so no unexpected costs, the Printer knows when the Toner is low and re-orders.
mavhc Posted July 11, 2017 Posted July 11, 2017 (edited) Apart from papercut there's a load of stuff listed at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pull_printing In the Open Source world https://www.savapage.org/ seems to be the thing to look at Edited July 11, 2017 by mavhc 1
ReverentCreature Posted July 12, 2017 Posted July 12, 2017 Big thumbs up for papercut from me. You pay based on the number of AD users who will use the system. Having managed print also means you are cutting down on wastage (eco friendly) and also protecting data (as users have to physically release the job). So that helps a school be compliant in those areas.
