Lippy Posted July 3, 2017 Posted July 3, 2017 I work with a couple of high schools (neither currently in MATS), and when I approached the Finance Managers to ask if they'd starting looking at GDPR yet, both replied that it wasn't their remit and they presumed the Network Manager would deal with it. I've only started looking at GDPR, but from what I can see this should be lead by someone in SLT rather than being a purely 'IT thing' ... so I wondered how other schools are dealing with it? As often seems the case with anything IT related in high schools - it's left with the NM to sort, even though to be fully embedded there will need to be changes to processes, practices, CPD etc, right across the school!
GrumbleDook Posted July 3, 2017 Posted July 3, 2017 Data Protection is not IT, the same way Safeguarding is not just for tutors. Have a look in the resources thread for more information you can pass to your Head (no one else ... as the Head is the person who will cop the blame for problems) and then step back and wait for the look of panic. Don't panic though ... and don't be pressured to be the DPO (you are not allowed to be ... see other threads for that discussion).

Lippy Posted July 3, 2017 Author Posted July 3, 2017 Thanks guys I think in schools with an SBM on SLT this could work (depending on their role) In the schools I work with they both have a Finance Manager, which isn't really the same, and so I think it needs to be led by a member of SLT, or the Head.
pete Posted July 3, 2017 Posted July 3, 2017 The SBM is the DPO and they're leading it. With nudging (that occasionally goes into nagging) and input from me (NM).
elsiegee40 Posted July 3, 2017 Posted July 3, 2017 Rather than repeat a load of stuff, I suggest you read this thread. What matters is not what other schools are doing, but who is actually allowed to do it! http://www.edugeek.net/forums/employment-issues-advice/184428-told-take-new-data-protection-officer-role.html
