I can't see SCCM going away anything soon. But MS seem to be going for more subscriptions and cloud.

 

Any thoughts?

That sounds, pretty awesome actually.

 

I feel like if a lot of this was ready when windows 10 came out, it'd be a lot easier to roll out windows 10.

 

Imagine a school with 1:1 devices, first day all the students need to do is logon. Or a business with BYOD policies.

 

It requires a radical rethink of how we'd deliver IT services, but i can see some potential, although not so much for traditional schools that aren't doing 1:1

 

hmm I wonder if using this you could do away with the server setup in schools.

 

Onedrive for file storage, this for imaging, a cloud based impero type software.

Would the saving in server infrastructure and licencing allow this to pay for itself.

Looks like they're close to having a very competitive rival to iPads in the classroom. They just need to improve the apps on their store...

On prem domain membership does slow down logons. Windows 10 S only supports azure AD. If we could buy hardware without the crudware in the OEM image autopilot might be sensible. Though still need an intune subscription to push out programs.

Intune for edu is dirt cheap. Azure AD Premium subscription on the other hand probably isn't...and is required for the auto enrollment it seems. I wonder if there's an Azure AD Premium for edu? Never needed to look into that before.

 

Interesting timing as I'm currently investigating a 1:1 device solution. Though probably a little risky to dive into windows 10S devices, intune for edu and autopilot with it so early in life. Got 12 months though...tempting, maybe microsoft will actually be helpful if I go early adopter (high risk, low reward scenario though...)
