PC BSOD when turning off projector intermittently

Background

Last December In one big new build installation we installed 9 Epson ultra short throw projector (sorry cant recall the exact model) connected to HP prodesk 250 SFF via HDMI. All rooms exactly identical from an IT and AV setup prospective

 

Problem

Every now and again when you turn off the projector the pc BSOD. Doesn't happen everytime and only has been reported on two different computers of the 10 installed in the new build. when I have spoken to all the staff no one else has commented that they have ever experienced it even in the rooms that have been reported symptoms. but the multiple teachers over the times it had been reported have all explained similar symptoms. I personally have never witnessed it happening however the event logs show the BSOD occur.

 

As far as I am aware and been informed this has only just started happening? Windows update???

 

Anyone else had this issue. unfortunately I didn't think at the time to extract the dmp file before reimaging the computer but next time it happens i will be sure to extract the dmp file and update this thread

I'd say something to do with the display driver when it switches from dual screen to single screen. I'd check that the display driver is a proper driver and not the microsoft vga driver. We have some HP computers that fail to install the intel driver and prefer to use the microsoft one for some reason! Edited June 27, 2017 by browolf

I'd also say it's being caused by the graphics driver crashing. In which case, install the latest available one and see if that improves matters.

If you can get hold of a little utility called BlueScreenView and run it on an affected machine, it will tell you the details of each BSOD on that machine (by looking at the dump files generated by each BSOD). It should point the finger at any drivers causing the BSOD.

Found the model number now they are Epson Interactive short throw EB-575Wi

 

All computers which are actually HP 280 G2 Sff in the same block that are identical are all using the same intel hd 530 driver. just wondered if anyone else had come across it before now

We have a few EB-585W ultra short throws, but haven't had any such problems. We use Dell laptops with the Intel HD graphics.

Turned out to be the USB driver. Unplugged the USB from the projector , hey presto no more bsod
