Is there a quick way or piece of software that can tell me what device is connected to a particular port on a switch?

Basically, we have a situation where a port has had its label removed and I need to know where it goes back to on the switch.

Would love a piece of software to tell me the IP of mac address of each device connected to which port on the switches.

Cheers

Several ways:

Pull the plug from the wall, log in to the switch and see which port shows as 'down' to find it then trace to patch panel port number.

each switch should have a MAC address table, select the Port, view the MAC address and find it in DHCP from your asset list if you record MAC addresses.

If a managed switch such as HP you can do a show mac-address to see what mac address is being shown on the port. You can then look at your DHCP server or other records to see what the device is.

This is how we find such things, we have over 400 HP edge switches and up to 15 in a single comm's room. We plug a laptop into a wall port and as long as the port is live we can normally trace to the exact port we are connected to.
