To do a mention in a post I think that you need to do

[MENTION=nnnnn]edugeek_person[/MENTION]

How do you determine the "magic number" for the person?

I just @ and then type their username @unixman_again

Yeah the plugin only processes on post and then changes it to special bbcode. The bbcode needs a closing /mention tag as well.

Normally using the at symbol will work though when its posted.
