Hi All

I have been tasked with creating many new documents and portal etc for our I.T department. I thought before I started I might create some kind of I.T logo/branding to go along with our documentation. Has anyone else done this kind of thing? Would just really like some uniform way of creating things so that everything looks nice and the same. Any examples appreciated.

I would also be interested to see how others are doing this and what others are using as a sort of portal. I was thinking of possibly some kind of Office 365 Sharepoint site?

I've not used a logo (just our school badge), but I'm very particular about using names of things consistently. We get called all sorts of things (IT support, IT department, technical support, ICT technicians, IT technicians, etc., etc.) but I make sure that we only ever refer to ourselves as IT Support. In addition to that, the different systems get called all sorts of things as well (particularly by parents, who have access to a few different things now but tend to conflate them all into one 'website'). Naming things consistently, capitalising words consistently and not using old versions of the school logo (we have several!) helps a lot with making things easy to follow for end users.

We use osTicket for our helpdesk, and we use that for our public-facing IT Support site as well, as we can use it for FAQs and downloadable PDF user guides.

We are currently using SharePoint and this is what I am going to base our IT portal on. Hopefully a one stop shop so to speak.

@jthompson, I definately know what you mean about different systems getting named incorrectly. I contantly get parents asking me to reset their password for the parents portal when they mean something else. Trying to slowly stamp this out but it will take time!

Yes, 'parent portal' is the exact same phrase we hear all the time! I think somebody at some point in the past decided that our SLG would get launched by that name (and possibly also by the name 'VLE', depending on the context or audience) rather than using the actual name of the product. Even if a name is a bit crap and clumsy (G Suite, anyone?), I think it's best to stick with it regardless.

Does the school have any branding? If they do I would make it a sub set of that. If not, either now is your time to make it, or keep it neutral to be able to fit in if they do in the future. What ever you do, keep it consistent.

We use the log below. It usually is put alongside the school logo

Neat, you’ve incorporated the save icon. Obviously trying to send a message about saving people from IT problems?
