Hi I have a Sophos UTM restricted mode is enable on the guest network via DNS settings but this seems to cause issues for staff in blocking video's. I have tried adding a host file but this does not resolve the issue for staff. Any suggestions should I just remove the DNS setting for the whole network they did not seem to be working when defined in the DNS servers so they had to be defined on the Sophos UTM.

How do you do this?

You guys have a Google apps domain? You should be able to remove restrictions for certain logged in accounts. If not, then you'll have to toss staff over to another DNS that doesn't have the redirect in it for strict mode.

Problem is that the request are coming form the UTM as it is in proxy mode so using that DNS. If Youtube went through the proxy could I use the host file options?

I have Linux content filter (Dansguardian/Squid) and use the host file on the appliance to lock Restricted Mode across the whole network. Teachers have a Google Apps account they can use to override restricted mode as many useful videos are blocked.

The DNS on my filter appliance goes direct to our ISP and does not go through our internal domain controller. If yours is similar then changes on your internal DNS won't affect web traffic that is proxied.

The only issue I had is that a number of teachers were initially sharing a Google Apps account and this interfered with their ability to override restricted mode. They now have individual accounts and all al is working as it should.

In Google Apps how did you enable the unrestricted access to the content? I have logged in with a test user (G Suite) and it has had no effect the restrictions are still in place. Edited by nicholab
