GSuite to Personal Account Transfer

Has anyone used the 'Drive Migrator' app on the Chrome Web Store?

 

One of our teachers is wondering whether she can take her Drive files with her when she leaves in July. As the GSuite admin, I can only transfer files between users on the same domain.

Hi James, please do correct me if i am wrong but should'nt taking her files with her possibly turn into a breach of data protection? Also is she copying? Or going to take everything?

 

Could probably just copy all the work which has no identifiable data to a pc and then she can copy to her personal system?

Yeah, there is the possibility of that. It's a difficult one because obviously she should be allowed to take files that she is the 'owner' of from her own Google Drive, as long as they don't contain any sensitive data.

Thanks. I did have a look at that option but the downside is that it converts all Google files into Word/Excel/PDF. Of course they could then re-upload and re-convert each file but I read some people had issues with it not converting back correctly.

Copyright lies with your employer automatically unless specified in your contract or you have an alternative agreement. I always pass these requests to the head so they can make the decision

No ... the correct answer is that she has administrative ownership of the files within GSuite and so able to manually remove or copy the files to another storage medium should the the school policies and her contract of work give here permissions to.

 

Ownership of materials belongs to the employer if created under instruction as part of her contract of work. Even if created outside of school, if done for work purposes then, technically, the school owns them.

 

In reality, most schools are fine for people to take resources as long as then don't sell them.

Any resources created by anyone else *should not be taken without permission*
