[bromcom] Migrating CMIS to Bromcom

Hi all

 

As a school we have always used the "Events" tab in CMIS to enter behaviour events, rather than purchasing the extra Behaviour Management module (which adds the "BM Events" tab).

 

We are in the process of migrating across but Bromcom are saying they can't migrate our events as they are not in the BM Events section?! Surely there must be a way of migrating data that is part of the core functionality of CMIS???

 

Has anybody experienced this or know of a way of getting it done?

CMIS schools that use the Events tab for behaviour records are advised to complete our Excel migration templates with the details of their behaviour events, and we import that for them, instead of using a built in process.

 

The main reason why we do not migrate from this section of CMIS is that the user can define almost anything to go into that area of CMIS.

 

The user can create a list of ‘events’ (which may or may not be similar to our behaviour events), and then for those events create custom fields specific to those events.

 

Different schools will have different field definitions for each event. Due to the structure of the events being non-standard across schools, this makes it unfeasible to migrate accurately without having manual intervention.

 

As an aside, historically we have found that some schools have used this events tab for such things as communications with parents. This data would not be expected to go into the behaviour module. A final point, is what would be the expectation if a school was using both the events tab in CMIS and the currently-supported Behaviour management module for CMIS? We might even find a school that uses Events for one part of their behaviour model, and the Behaviour module for something else!

 

To summarise; the schools in such circumstance are offered to use the Excel templates for importing this data, which has not mentioned in the above post.

I think it's a reasonable expectation that data is stored in the nominated area, and the migrations are based on this.

Any non-standard usage has to be an exception. Filtering the events for behaviour and providing on a spreadsheet sounds like an effective workaround.

Fair enough I suppose. I was in a grumpy mood when I made this post yesterday afternoon. I have now received these spreadsheet templates and I'll see how hard it will be to get them transferred into it.

Changing MIS will make you MISerable I'm sure , at least during the process.
