just_david Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 (edited) Hi Folks, I need to roll out 2 new windows 10 PC's (7th gen processors) to an existing windows 7 school. Upgrading the hole school isn't an option so I'm kinda after the bare minimum to get the workstations going. If I use classic shell will the existing windows start menu redirection work? (its directed to a shared location) I'm guessing redirected folders will work the same as 7, as would mapped drives. Is there anything else I'd need to do? I don't want to have to re-invent the wheel for 2 PC's if I can avoid it. Edited April 12, 2017 by just_david
enjay Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 Who will be using them? Do they need redirected Start Menu, etc. or could you just set them up as W10, domain join them then manually map the drive for MyDocs?
mavhc Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 Most things work the same, depends how everything else works and how much you need to lock them down. There's a new Settings thing to replace GPO that you can now, with 1703, block some parts of instead of the whole thing. Just test it and see really.
just_david Posted April 19, 2017 Author Posted April 19, 2017 I've actually got the PC's in now and they are working really well. Was reading so many windows 10 disaster stories it was putting me right off, but with a few little tweaks to remove some apps and classic shell and so far they work like a charm. A few powershell scripts to remove the non needed apps and removing the windows store and login times are if anything quicker than the windows 7 devices. Now if only the sites internet hadn't thrown a paddy 5 mins after I left they'd be fully finished. But so far its been a good and successful test
