Hi,

We have some servers we want to upgrade to Server 2016

We normally do a fresh install of OS' however are wanting to upgrade this time due to having to re-configure shares etc.

Can we just pop the CD in and upgrade or do we have to do something special? Server holds WSUS, WDS, DFS and FS Resource Manager.

Thanks,

Whistler.

I always do clean installs, and as above I do the same, export the shares, install new OS then re-import the shares. Works every time and keeps the permissions.

I have done a inplace upgrade for my domain controller 1 purly the fact i havent got time to rebuild them from scratch , all went perfectly and its running very well.

I have done a few inplace upgrades on member servers too, i do not think it is as bad as was in past builds.

note i did test on a copy of the servers first to preempt any issues.

I did a clean install of one of my DC's this week to server 2016. All went fine no issues. At least with demoting the server first if the upgrade fails you don't have to manually clean up AD.
