WPKG - Use ALONGSIDE Group Policy .msi Deployment?

Hi all - as title really. I'm not sure it's 'safe' to use both at the same time to deploy packages, but I really don't like WPKG (or rather, un-picking the dependencies of dependencies of dependencies and caveats of packages on this network I've inherited.)

 

I'm tempted though. One of my techs accidentally tried it, and there wasn't carnage, but this might have been more luck than anything else.

 

Anyone out there know what the score is on using both together?

As long as you don't try and control a package you have deployed with AD with a WPKG deployment script it should be fine.

 

Is WPKG supported on anything other than XP ?

 

I'm currently using the WPKG-gp fork with Windows 7 and Windows 10, so I would have thought the standard one would too.

I've been using it on Windows 7 for some time with no issues. Also tried the same wpkg client on Windows 10 and it worked with no problems.

 

Its all client side Jscript and xml so shouldn't be much to go wrong.

 

I'm running a Linux DC so wpkg suits my environment nicely. Can take a little time to get your head around the configuration but it has good debug options and logs you can use to troubleshoot.
