I am guessing that without the docked iPhone the larger device cannot be used.

That is true from what I've read. It's an utterly terrible idea, and certainly not a new one. But no doubt some morons will flock to it like it's marvellous.

Once again, Apple have taken another companies idea and selling it as something new and innovative. It's the equivalent of the lap dock for the HP elite X3

A terrible idea - the iPhone is too wide, and people's wrists will brush it. We already have that with normal size trackpads!
