ICTNUT Posted March 5, 2008 Report Posted March 5, 2008 Hi guys, Does anyone use these HP ThinClients they are really good but are a pain to configure. I want to Configure them so that when the unit starts it comes up with the connect screen, user presses connect and then logs into the server <-- I can do this bit, what I am having trouble with is stopping anyone from making changes to the config as by default the user used to load the connect screen is an admin. Also is there a way to push setting out to these so that if a change is made it can just be pushed out on the next reboot or something. I currently have 10 of these and I am looking at getting another 20 but if the admin overhead is going to be high I may need to re-think this idea.
Geoff Posted March 5, 2008 Report Posted March 5, 2008 Configure the admin password and set the default login mode to user. That'll do what you want. I know of no way to remotely push the config. We only have 5 here, which we configured manually.
ICTNUT Posted March 5, 2008 Author Report Posted March 5, 2008 thanks geoff, next question would how to do a "factory reset" as I have one unit that cannont be accessed at all.
PeterRohlfs Posted March 28, 2008 Report Posted March 28, 2008 You cand fix it by reflashing it with the latest firmware. To do this you need a usb thumb/flash drive. Download sp36709.exe from Hps's website to a PC. This is the latest OS. Run it on the PC and use it to format and load the flash. Plug the flash into on of the USB ports on the 5135. Turn it on. If it boots the flash drive you will see the activity light on the flash blinking. Follow the instructions to reset/update the machine. I've noticed that the 5135 often doesn't access the flash drive on cold boots. If you can actually get to the shutdown button when the machine is up, use it to reboot. If not, try different usb ports and quickly turning the machine on/off until it boots form the flash. Good luck, Peter PS Has anybody gotten one of these thin clients to open multiple sessions and switch between them?
