Photocopiers and data

Hi,

 

We are getting our photocopiers and printers removed and replaced with new ones.

 

Ricoh are trying to charge us £350 per machine to be removed as a "Data sanitation" fee.

 

What this basically means is that they will wipe any data that is on the machines but I was under the impression that printers don't store data on them.

 

Could anyone clarify this for me please? I could be wrong but don't want to pay out thousands more if we don't have to.

It's true, that photocopiers do retain data on HDDs.

You can request to keep the hard drives so that you can manage their data destruction as per your usual policy.
