Interactive Projectors - Anybody using these? Pro's and Con's

The best one I have used was an Epson EB575 (which is now obsolete). Replaced by the EB675WI. It was intuitive and had a good brightness for a projector of that type. It was wireless and I loved the huge screen size it could give you as well. Just a massive canvas on your wall to work with. It's biggest con really was it's price. When the price of touchscreens dropped nobody ever asked for them anymore and I've not had much interaction with them for a while now. Only recognises 2 point touch as well.

As far as I'm concerned they are a deprecated technology. They were never quite as good as IWBs. Sure they ended up a bit cheaper than a board+projector install, but these days unless you have need of a very specific install an interactive screen is a much better proposition. Easier and cheaper to install, more accurate, lower TCO as no lamps to change/filters to clean and frequently comprehensive software bundles included.

Personally I really like the interactive projectors, Epson range with interactivity using pens and fingers. Pricing sold it for us over the interactive whiteboards and projector solution and no membrane to wreck. They auto calibrate so that is good too.

 

When I looked at interactive screens the cost worked out far more (£400-600) for the size staff wanted (this included replacing bulbs within lifetime). My staff love them and I can't think of any cons, easy to install too.

 

I am sure the cost difference in interactive screens and projectors is now a lot less but think I will still stick with interactive projectors for the moment.

If you are looking Interactive projectors stay well clear of Smart Interactive projectors. Bulbs are expensive and even under warranty Smart (since the demise of Steljes) are so slow to send replacements. Epson are a much better bet. Wish we had bought Epson 3 years ago instead of Smart but they didnt bundle Smart Notebook at that time.

In the BETT show the only projectors on display were 2 of them in a dual desktop super wide screen config, on the Epson stand. All of the other hundreds of stands were using interactive touch screens.

 

I think as Oaktech said, the days of the projector are all but over.

 

One company I was particularly impressed at BETT with is Prowise - they do direct sales, no middlemen, to keep costs right down, you may find a 65" board comes in at not much more expensive than an interactive projector - and my god so much easier to fit!!!

Does anyone else use Prowise?... any pros/ cons?.. I would be looking to get a board with a PC module... and decent interactive software ( Have experience of SMART - very good but expensive now), Lynx Clevertouch - best of bunch I've seen in action, Spark from Genee - hit and miss...

We do. Good boards, not bad price. we use their modules as well.

 

I like their software as well, but staff are luke warm on it as it isn't Smart Notebook. Totally web based, allows sharing of files and you can make some interesting presentations in it.

My only experience with them was 3yrs ago when I installed them into school in West Yorkshire. Dutch company. They do come with a PC on board but then again you will find that any touchscreen can now accommodate a PC on board. Their software, certainly at the time, was unique. Crisp, clear setup, 3D graphics etc but it did used to be all cloud based. I think that's changed but it would be worth double checking. Looks like you know what's out there but the other product you should consider is the C-Touch with their Oktopus software.
