Brother printers and VLAN

Hi

can anyone tell me why all my brother printers are accessible my VLANs?

they all have a static IP and same gateway as other devices, servers, switches etc

 

However, from other VLANs, running an IP scanner across the range of my default VLAN 1 IP Range brings up and can ping all the brother printers that are on our network.

 

Is there something with brother that makes them accessible/discover able on all VLANs?

That should certainly not be happening... Once the switch has been setup for the port to only work on certain VLANs and your PVID is set to the correct VLAN, no device should be able to communicate on a different one that has not been defined.

 

The only thing I can think of is somehow there is a cross connection between the two VLANs at some point or that the VLAN hasn't been removed from the ports the Brother printers are using.

I can ping the printer IP from laptop on guest wireless, but from the switch that the printer is connected to it fails to ping the laptop IP so definitely a printer thing but the gateway is the same as the switches etc also on the main VLAN 1.

No, one of the printers i'm trying to test with is connected to a switch which only has the default VLAN 1 on it and no others.

How is that switch connected up to the rest of the network? (re: vlan tagging/untagged etc...).

 

Inter-vlan routing isn't enabled on each switch, only on the gateway, so the edge switch its plugged into shouldn't really matter.
