Is RDS a good wireless tablet solution?

Hi all,

I am an IT Manager at a large school and I am faced with thetask of replacing our aging laptops.

I like many of you have been looking at tablet solutions,and I have been toying with the possibility of using RDS.

The advantages of using RDS on the tablets seem obvious inthat:

 

1. Performance is great as everything runs serverside.
   
2. The users get the same experience as they wouldon a desktop PC including all applications.
   
3. The limited storage space on the tablets is notused up.
   
4. Deployment is simple.
   
5. Nothing is stored locally, which is great from asecurity POV.

What are your opinions on this as a solution? Is thereanything that I am missing here which could put a big spanner in the works?

it varies depending on the programe some windows programs work fine on an "ipad" via rds some just dont because they were designed with a keyboard and mouse in mind. Like always its the right tool for the right job so doing insanely complicated excel sheets on rds to an ipad may work but its going to be frustrating.

I would suggest, if you are going down the Surface route, then RDS is less needed.

 

Surface space isn't too bad ont eh 64GB model as long as you train/ teach your staff well. If from home they use RDS and then in school use the network shares like normal then as long as your wifi is good enough then the space won't be sued up.

 

The key is getting teaching staff to use the network for storage as oppose to local drives.
