E70 Smart board "skipping"

Hi Guys, thanks in advance for the help.

 

We've got a Smart E70 interactive display that when you go to draw on it keeps skipping.

So If I go to draw a line across the board sections of the line would skip, as though that part of the board isn't registering the pen.

While it's easy enough to replicate there isn't any pattern to it that would indicate a localised problem with the touch hardware. For example I can run the pen along the same route multiple times and get the skips in different places each time.

It does seem much more apparent on horizontal lines than vertical ones.

 

Anyone seen anything like this before? Any ideas what might be causing this?

I get it sometimes if the sensor bars are dirty or the teacher has stuck something the the frame that interferes with the sensor.

 

If it's not that it could be a connection issue, have you tried changing the USB lead?

I've had several replaced with the same issue (on site swap-out is covered under warranty). Does it work OK using your finger? Ours only had this issue using the pen and only on the bottom half on the board... The replacements (and newer boards that we've had) have been fine.

I've cleaned up the board and tried a new cable. This doesn't seem to have made much difference.

 

Dom_, yes, the board works fine using a finger, but not with the pen, and problem seems much more noticeable on the left hand half than the right. It sounds like the same problem you were having.

Time to check the warranty then.

I found the pen nibs get pitted, i think the teachers/kids throw them about TBH. I've been trying to get them to use paintbrushes instead of pens, they work just as well.

 

Also, giving the screens and bezels regular cleaning I found helps. Agree with the comment about things stuck on the edges by teachers, this does interfere with the sensors.
