Excel Drop down list that allow quick access and autocomplete

Hi guys;

 

Looking for some Excel gurus out there!

 

I'm looking at a Excel spreadsheet for calculating food data from recipes, I have attached spreadsheet, it has data validation that selects data from ingredients worksheet and calculates calories protein etc

 

The list works but unlike say windows file system where you can type in a letter and it jump list to matching words, user has to scroll through to select the right data..on lists that might grow to thousands of entries, will become an issue

 

The tricky thing is this sheet has to work on Excel for Mac so Active X solution is out.

 

Can anyone suggest a better way?
