localzuk Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 Articles like those only look at the negatives. They always ignore the positives of smartphones and just blow the negatives well out of proportion.
CAM Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 Separated from my phone for three months, no PTSD and never felt better. It's total rubbish.
Dos_Box Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 Articles like those only look at the negatives. They always ignore the positives of smartphones and just blow the negatives well out of proportion. It's a good point. It would also help if there were more inter-generational research done as to how technology is utilised. I'm not talking about people in their 50's who have just got their first smart phone and find it confusing, but looking at how (for example) people of my age group and upwards who have worked with technology all their lives use newer tech compared to those much younger who have been given their first devices by their parents. For me a smart phone is a very useful tool. It still allows me to make calls yet also brings together my email, messages and other important stuff which I can check as and when I need to. On top of this it also give me apps which help me to peform certain tasks when out and about such as Uber, British Airways, sat-nav and media player. And I can make calls But, I don't stay glued to it. If I want to check email or other messages I stop and read them. I've never walked down a street with it held in front of me (unless very lost in a city and on Google Maps!). To me it is, for the most part, still a tool, not the centre of my universe. My phone is my bus pass, it aids me when I travel on trains (the train apps tell me well in advance what platform I need to head to etc...), boarding pass for flights, a controller for my smart lights, my banking tool, a log of my blood pressure for my consultant, tiny serial number barcode magnifier, 2FA device etc... Not having it would make my life significantly less efficient. The other bits - Social Media, games, whatever, are a bonus bit of fun, but I can take them or leave them.
