Jaan Posted February 15, 2017 Posted February 15, 2017 I forgot how painful it was to configure Windows 7 GPOs in it's early days. After finally updating the servers and AD to be able to cater for 2016\10, i've sat down to have a look at configuring some GPOs for Windows 10. I added the 1607 templates into our central store, created a fresh 1607 (EDU) install from an ISO and dropped it into a test OU that has our current "test" Win7 gpos assigned. Logged in as a student and was surprised how much our current 7 policies lock it down. The issues i'm having however are with features that weren't around when we configured Windows 7 GPOs the first time around. I seem to be unable to "lock down" or disable areas of the ribbon in the file explorer for example. Do we have a Windows 10 Gotchas/Tips/FYI (like the older one) anywhere? cheers
3s-gtech Posted February 15, 2017 Posted February 15, 2017 Certain areas of the ribbon in 8, 8.1 and 10 can only be locked down with registry entries (we do this to remove the Show hidden files and folders tickbox) so you may not find everything you need in GP Editor. Doesn't mean it can't be done!
Jaan Posted February 15, 2017 Author Posted February 15, 2017 Is there a page that you know if the lists some of this wizardry? Cheers
Liam Posted February 15, 2017 Posted February 15, 2017 Trial and error for us. Made loads of changes to the registry. It's been a bit of a nightmare but I'm there now. Last change for me was removing the power user menu or windows x menu. You will have some Fun though! It's taken me months of logging in and out! Still unhappy with login times though.. so frustrating
