PAT test logging

Hi all,

We're about to bring out PAT testing in-house and need some software to keep a track of stuff. I'm planning on rolling out writing our own asset tracking / help desk software next year which will handle it but until then we need something.

 

Obviously we can just use an access database, but I was wondering if there was anything better than that obviously free and/or open source is best. What we're looking to do is just enter bits of equipment and record pass/fail, retest. etc

Before you reinvent the wheel, it's probably worth contacting ICTNUT to see if Mylittlehelpdesk does everything you need... he lets schools have it free, I believe

Thanks, I will be evaluating this, however the development is a university final year project, I'm hoping to combine helpdesk and asset tracking into one web based project.

There is a equipment register in SIMS. It's not very good, but we have to use it for that financial standards thing. It does allow a print off of equipment by room and gives a proforma for pass/fail and an easy way of updating that back into the register.

 

Oh, and, on a related note:

We're also putting asset tags with an internal serial number on all our equipment, so it easier to track what's in the database. You can by these - but they are at least £150 for 300.

Alternatively, you can get special heavy duty Avery labels and print your own. We got silver foil ones from Staples but you can also get those tamper resistant ones. Was about £30 for 1000! We even stuck a barcode on it to make it easier (most equipment has the serial number in a barcode too).

I use Shire Software Safety 1st for PAT management, they also do a job tracking thingy that goes with it.

Didnt want to pay for what basically amounted to am access dbase, so I wrote our own in MySQL+PHP.

 

Has some rough edges but would be willing to share if you wanted.

If you haven't bought your tester yet, you could always buy one that logs all the stuff for you... they aren't vastly more expensive from what I remember.
