[sims] Individual Reports - can default format be amended from .xml to .doc?

Hi

 

I have a query regarding documents which are generated via Individual Reports on SIMS. As things stand, they default to .xml format, and I am asking if there is any way in which the default format could be amended to .doc. The reason for this is that when I import the generated .xml documents to Google Drive (which is our SLT’s preferred medium for storing documents on our school network), some staff are subsequently encountering difficulties when trying to access them. I have had to regenerate all relevant documents via the Individual Report, and then resave each individual document as a .doc file before saving them again to Google Drive, hence my query.

 

Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

I don't think you can do that, same as assessment manager marksheets being XML.

 

I take it once they are uploaded they should be read only, if that is the case, you would print them to a PDF printer rather than exporting them.

Would be nice if they were uploaded as a PDF - given functionality is already there when exporting.. for us XML sometimes opens in dreamweaver

XML is required as part of the way they are generated.

There are a couple of methods used to save as doc files, but they are old, and you'll most likely want to use docx now. I'll see if i can find the thread(s).

Bulk print / conversion to PDF is probably easier.

Update:

Most issues I was thinking of were centred around bulk printing the xml files. There is one that does a conversion.

 

So the old school trick was to just bulk rename the files and it would trick the machine / software into working. That probably won't work with new file formats, but worth a try as a quick fix.

This thread discusses and has some scripts to do a manual conversion to .doc . I've also suggested in post 35 a way to get it to save as pdf. Worth a read of the whole thread to see if it can help.
