OSx86 10.4.4 Leaked

While we knew it would just be a matter of time, OS X for Intel 10.4.4 has leaked. As usual, the recovery disc is being seeded via torrent on a major bit torrent site. The following oh-so-brief note accompanies the .dmg file:

 

This is the Mac OS X 10.4.4 Restore Disc included with all the Intel iMacs. It's unpatched so don't bother trying to install it.

 

No word yet as to the integrity of this file, nor is it known the method with which Apple will keep hackers from breaking their hardware restrictions. In other news, somewhere in Europe a man with a name that, when translated, sounds vaguely like Maxxuss, was seen dashing through the snow covered streets towards his computer shouting something like "Viva la x86! I must get to my hackintosh!"

Just to point out this still won't nativley boot on a none Apple intel board.

 

The retail versions of x86 OS X still needs a machine with EFI and not a BIOS which as far as I'm aware only Apple are using at the moment.

 

Although this release is different to the leaked developer files that could be booted on an intel machine I suppose it's only just a matter of time before this is hacked to work with vmware or something!

I'd downloaded this over a month ago, just not got round to taking it to a mates MAC to uncompress it, and burn it to DVD yet!

I have the VMware image of 10.4 running on an IBMR50e laptop in linux, sadly it doesn't pick up the network card and the R50e doesn't support SSE3 which some of the i apps require, so its a bit useless really.

It is possible to get all this sorted on newer hardware, people have done it and have it booting - its just not entirely legal.

 

booting OSX on a pc looks v.cool though.
