I was wondering how long it'd be before this came up.

 

Don't even go there.

 

We all pronounce it wrong, but are happy that it doesn't sound like a kitchen/bathroom cleaner.

Very common now, seems to have spread from an American thing in the 90s.

I hear that a lot in the UK. I hear the US version as:

 

"Can I axe you something?"

It's one of those things that's technically grammatically correct, even if it doesn't sound it*, stemming from the words ascian and acsian (which became shortened to Asc/Ask and Acs over time)

 

* Consider 'By accident' and 'On accident' both also being grammatically sound.

With rain and thunder in the forecast this morning I am reminded that my sister (when she was very young) used to say that it was timbleling outside (thundering.)

My mind was blown when I found out that Arkansas is pronounced 'Ark-en-saw' not 'Are-kansas'....

 

Blow you mind even more - the state is pronounced AR-kan-saw but the river is pronounced ar-KAN-zas.

I asked our DT technician to make a key fob for a laptop trolley. He cut out a piece of plastic and then engraved "Trolly 1" on it. The slight irony was that trolley 1 is in the English block.
